Delete Files for Good

Once you hit delete and even after emptying the recycle bin, then there is a still a good chance that someone with reasonble I.T. nouce about them could recover the file. There are though a few utilities that can remove the file for good making sure that even MI5 can’t find the data.

The program we’ll look at is Eraser, it’s free and can be downloaded here

Once you’ve downloaded it, then simply select run for it to install onto your machine, follow the onscreen options

Once the program has been installed, you’ll now get an ‘erase’ opton whenever you right click on a file

By selecting the ‘options’ button

You can even erase the file up to the U.S. DoD standard

Whatever you need to keep safe, your now happy in the knowledge that if you do leave your laptop on the train people won’t be recovering the files you deleted last week.

Of course if you’re on a Apple Mac then things are a little easier, all you have to do delete the file as normal, but the instead of selecting ‘empty trash’ you go the file menu and select ‘secure empty trash’

Easy :) not quite as secure as Gutmann, but enough to even make the FBIs job hard!
