The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) started 2009 nicely this year with a host of wild and wonderful new pieces of tech. One of the most incredible was Mattel launching a game that you move around a ball on a cushion of air using your mind. Not quite pulling an X-Wing fighter out of a swamp but never-the-less quite nice. The BBC has a rather nice video of it in action here
Amongst other things;
Tom Hanks (opening for Sony) headlined of all the speeches at CES, he's quite funny :)
Palm (yes I thought they were dead as well) have produced a very nice ‘ Palm Pre ' and ‘Web OS' Palm's shares have risen 35% on the back of it!
Intel demo a near ‘minority report' style of touch screen display Wireless power (through magnetic induction) was on demo and comes as standard on the ‘ Palm Pre '
AMD announced ‘fusion rendering cloud'; think 3d graphics rendered server side and pushed to your computer, think playing the latest games on 10 year old hardware
ASUS Announced a computer in a keyboard for use with a computer, so you can have the keyboard displaying new email messages, or a calculator, or calendar, or movie or music (it's 1.6GHz intel, 1GB Ram, running Windows XP)
Softkinetic have produced a new gesture control system
Flatwire have made just that, cable that's flat which you can then paint or wallpaper over
