Why we sponsored Brendon McCullum

brendon-mccullum_2Brendon McCullum has just lead his side to victory in the ODI series over World Champions Australia. The summer ahead holds the challenge of helping Middlesex to a victory in both short formats of the game.

We’re a big supporter of Middlesex, we normally do the match ball sponsorship of Middlesex vs Surrey T20 and we sponsor a couple of player’s kits.

This year we jumped at the chance to sponsor Brendon’s one day kit. We obviously love his incredible one day record, his swashbuckling batting style, but we’re more drawn to him as is one of the greatest statesmen for cricket in our generation. I’ve heard him speak a few times in victory and defeat and no one sounds more sincere.

To be as good as he is and as humble at the same time takes rare skill in any sport. Probably the most recent poignant example was when an umpire made a mistake against New Zealand (maybe costing the game) – his immediate reaction was to praise the umpire as one of the best in the world and that everyone makes mistakes.

He is also rather aptly giving the 2016 MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture at Lords in June. His retirement from international cricket is a massive loss.

He’ll be an awesome force in NW1, and with the England skipper and the ex-NZ skipper on the same side hopefully Middlesex can take a trophy home!

Get over to the Middlesex fixtures and start blocking out some dates to see him in action
